Abstract

Pressure injury is a preventable complication. However, studies simultaneously assessing nurses’ roles and attitudes in relation to pressure injury prevention practices, particularly in neurology and intensive care units (ICUs), remain limited. Pressure injury prevention is an important concern for quality of care and patient safety. Nurses play an essential role in implementing prevention practices through risk assessment, skin care, repositioning, and patient education. This study aimed to analyze the association between nurses’ roles and attitudes and pressure injury prevention practices in the Neurology and ICU Wards of dr. Zubir Mahmud Idi Regional General Hospital, East Aceh Regency. This study employed an analytical design with a cross-sectional approach. The population and sample consisted of 31 nurses selected using total sampling. Data were collected using a questionnaire and analyzed using Fisher’s exact test because some cells had expected frequencies of less than 5. The results showed that 23 respondents (74.2%) had good pressure injury prevention practices, 21 respondents (67.7%) had good role performance, and 24 respondents (77.4%) had positive attitudes. Nurses’ roles were significantly associated with pressure injury prevention practices (Fisher’s exact test, p < 0.001), and nurses’ attitudes were significantly associated with pressure injury prevention practices (Fisher’s exact test, p = 0.006). These findings indicate that nurses’ roles and attitudes are associated with pressure injury prevention practices.
