Abstract

Background: Metabolic syndrome is a cluster of metabolic abnormalities including central obesity, hyperglycemia, dyslipidemia, and hypertension. It increases the risk of cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes mellitus. Objective: To determine the risk of metabolic syndrome among medical students of Wijaya Kusuma University Surabaya class of 2025. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted among 30 medical students. Body mass index, waist circumference, blood glucose, and cholesterol levels were assessed. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Results: Most respondents were female (53.3%). Overweight BMI was found in 53.3% of respondents, elevated waist circumference in 36.7%, elevated blood glucose in 16.7%, and elevated cholesterol in 33.3%. Metabolic syndrome risk was identified in 10% of respondents. Conclusion: Most respondents were not at risk of metabolic syndrome. However, the high prevalence of overweight students indicates the importance of early preventive interventions.
